Arc Flash Study IEEE1584
Arc Flash incident energy at working distance calculations with utility, generator and reactive load contributions.
Determine the Arc Boundary and Approach Distances.
List appropriate PPE dependent incident energy level. Produce custom PPE lists for sites with more stringent requirements than NFPA 70E guidelines.
Produce Arc Flash Warning and Danger labels.
Provide guidance on Arc Flash mitigation with existing equipment, if possible, suggest equipment additions if Arc Flash mitigation is precluded by existing equipment configuration.
If there is no existing, Site One-Line Diagram, a detailed Site survey can be performed to provide an As-Built One-Line Diagram of the Site's electrical systems.
Motor Start and Transient Studies
Model power system response on starting large Site loads such as motors. Also model system response on loss of significant load.
Recommend mitigation techniques for transient power and voltage conditions such as lightning arresters, VFDs and soft starters, Starting Capacitors, on other transient suppression devices.
Protective Device Upgrades
Upgrade protective devices to better protect equipment and personnel.
Integrate protective devices into Site SCADA or create an Engineering Work Station for safe, remote device operation and monitoring
Short Circuit and Coordination Studies
Confirm that existing equipment and connections is rated to carry full, steady state electrical load. Engage customers and designers to balance future expansion with operating costs.
Short Circuit and Coordination Studies
Confirm that existing equipment is rated to interrupt calculated fault current. Identify replacement components or in-line devices to mitigate deficient equipment.
Utilize Coordination Studies to set devices to trip closest to the fault location. Identify devices that cannot be coordinated and suggest appropriate replacements.
Power Quality and Harmonic Studies
Determine source of harmonics that can cause detrimental heating in equipment and conflict Interconnect Agreement requirements. Assist in harmonic and/or poor power factor mitigation such as capacitor banks and harmonic filters. Confirm the source of these issues is the Site and not the Utility.
